What does this illustration calculate?
Two complex scalar fields are added, showing intensity |E|² or phase arg(E). One carries a winding phase mθ, with amplitude A vanishing at the vortex centre; the reference uses A² as its envelope. With m = 0, the image returns to plane-wave interference.
E = A exp[i(kx + mθ + φ)] + 0.88 A² exp[−ikx]An illustration of phase, dark cores and fringe forks. It does not simulate a physical device or beam propagation.
