High-Q resonance engineering in momentum space for highly coherent and rainbow-free thermal emission
Co-first author
Research overview
Problem
Coherent thermal emission needs both a narrow spectrum and a confined emission angle. How can the angle-dependent rainbow effect be suppressed?
Mechanism
Preserve the high Q of an isolated BIC near the Γ point while far-field coupling between modes in different polarization channels lowers Q away from Γ, suppressing unwanted emission.
Result
Ternary-grating experiments demonstrate thermal emission near 6.5 μm with a 23 nm bandwidth, confined within a 2° angular range, combining temporal and spatial coherence.
